Red Flags To Watch Out For During Open Enrollment

Posted by Richard on November 7, 2024

You’re most likely already familiar with Medicare open enrollment, so you might not be surprised when someone calls this month to pitch a fantastic Medicare option to you.

But although you may not be surprised, you should definitely be. It’s actually illegal for an agent to call you without your permission, so that should be your first hint that something is amiss. But you should also be wary because finding the best plan for your needs isn’t like buying a loaf of bread off the shelf.

There are many options available. Some are right for you and some won’t be. A good Medicare insurance broker or agent is a useful ally in helping you sort through the many plans available and find the one that covers your preferred providers and prescriptions at the lowest cost for you. That takes some effort. It won’t be worth it to you if some of the benefits sound great, but your prescriptions and doctor are not covered.

If you wish to change Medicare plans during this year’s open enrollment period, you can call an agent or broker for information and, if you find something that works, sign up for a new plan. Just be sure the agent reviews all aspects of the new plan, whether it’s a supplemental plan or Medicare Advantage. Changing your coverage affects all aspects of your current plan.
